Alice Kennedy Massengale

Alice Faye Kennedy Massengale died in Cleburne, Texas, on July 23, 2024, after a brief illness. She was born February 16, 1950, the middle child of Elsie and George Kennedy of Stephenville, Texas.

Alice adored her parents and her upbringing near Fort Worth, Texas. Following high school, where she excelled academically and played cornet, Alice attended Tarleton State College. At Tarleton she met her future husband, Robert Michael (Mike) Massengale, who began pilot training in the United States Air Force immediately after his college graduation. Alice deferred the completion of her studies to start a family.

During their marriage, Alice and Mike had two sons while living in Arizona, California, the Panama Canal Zone, South Carolina, and Oklahoma. Alice eventually returned to Texas to live near her much-loved extended family.

After finishing her college degree and then seeing her sons through high school in Fort Worth, Alice spent nearly thirty-five years working as a housing program specialist for the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development, where she helped countless families realize their dreams of home ownership.

Alice was devoted to her family, including her two daughters-in-law, and she was especially proud of her grandson, Richard Sidney Massengale. She delighted in sharing family photographs with her work colleagues, and she is particularly remembered for her love of the children in her extended family and for her thoughtful gift-giving. She also enjoyed crafts such as knitting and quilting.

Alice is survived by her son Michael Christopher Massengale and his wife Lindsey Harris Massengale, her son Matthew Williams Massengale and his wife Erin Marsh, and her grandson Richard Sidney Massengale. She is also survived by her siblings, Steve Kennedy and Linda Kennedy Fuller.

A memorial service in celebration of Alice's life will be held on Saturday, August 24, 2024, at 1:00 pm at Rosser Funeral Home in Cleburne, Texas. 

In lieu of customary remembrances, contributions in the memory of Alice Faye Kennedy Massengale may be directed to a charity of one's choice.
