Brian Blockcolsky
Palmer, Alaska—Funeral services for Brian Blockcolsky, 47, of Palmer, Alaska, formerly of Fairbanks, Alaska will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, February 17, 2012, at the Cleburne Seventh-day Adventist Church.
Pastors Laurie DeWitt and Lyndon DeWitt will officiate. Burial will follow in Keene Memorial Park Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 5 – 8 p.m. Thursday, February 16, 2012 at Rosser Funeral Home in Cleburne.
Mr. Blockcolsky passed away on Friday, February 10, 2012 in Keene, Texas where he had been living for four months. He was born in Phoenix, Arizona on October 4, 1964, the son of Valeda (DeWitt) and William Blockcolsky.
At five years old, he joined the swim team and won his first ribbons and trophy in his freestyle stroke. He became a strong swimmer and, as an adult one summer, helped save the lives of others in Big Lake, Alaska. During his high school years he studied karate with a thorough and tough instructor and friends. He persisted until he achieved his goals. He became a black belt and continued to pursue higher degrees in the art.
In his childhood, Brian was a student of Avondale Elementary (Arizona), Fox Elementary, University Park Elementary, and Ryan Junior High School (Fairbanks). Brian graduated from West Valley High School in Fairbanks, Alaska in 1982 and from the University of Alaska Anchorage in Photojournalism in 2005. He was awarded an honorary 5th degree black belt (Go Dan) master rank in the Orthodox School of Okinawan Karate (Shudo Kan).
Brian was part of a team with NBC’S KTUU Channel 2 News in Anchorage, Alaska that won the National Press Photographers Television News Photography Station of the Year Award in 2006 and 2008. He worked there as a news editor and photojournalist. Brian dreamed big: he had many abstract ideas he wanted to develop and create. He invented and patented a clever device for videographers. It was his lifetime dream to be a successful entrepreneur. He dreamed of profits, but not for himself. He wanted to share with others, especially to help others, friends, and family with needs.
Brian Blockcolsky is survived by his family of Alaska: his father, William Blockcolsky of Fairbanks and mother, Valeda Blockcolsky of Palmer; brother, Douglas Blockcolsky of Anchorage; sister, Karen Denny of Palmer; nephews, Tristan and Evan Denny; and niece Brinae Denny. He was loved and will be missed. Please honor his memory with donations to the Shining Stars Foundation (P.O. Box 730, Tabernash, CO 80478) assisting children with cancer and other life threatening diseases.
