James Douglas “Doug” Borden, 92, a longtime resident of Abilene, Texas passed away Monday, October 17, 2016. Born June 29, 1924, in Cleburne, Texas, Doug was the son of James Clarence and Minnie Borden. Doug served his country in the U.S. Army where he was a member of the 43rd Infantry during World War II. He married Dorothy Jane Venable on November 15, 1943. Doug graduated with a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Geology from Texas Christian University and worked as a geologist for Stanolind Oil Company and then as an independent geologist. He was a longtime member of St. Paul’s Methodist Church and the Abilene Geological Society in Abilene, Texas.
Doug was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Billie Cox and Gladys Judkins.
He is survived by his wife of 73 years, Dorothy; two sons, Ronnie Borden and wife, Garrie and James Roland Borden and wife, Liese; two sisters, Linda Cooper and husband, Neil and Barbara Carmichall and husband, Bill. He is also survived by his six grandchildren, Ned, Caleb, Stephanie, Lane, Brent and Lauren; five great grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m., Thursday, October 20, 2016, at Rosehill Cemetery, Cleburne, Texas. A visitation will be held from 12 – 1 p.m. prior to the service at Rosser Funeral Home.
