Obituary for
John Edward Gilbert Bruer
Military graveside services for John Edward Gilbert Bruer, 86, of Cleburne, Texas will be conducted at 11:15 a.m. Monday, Jan. 12, 2015 at the Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery. The Rev. Don Hunt will officiate.
There is no visitation scheduled.
Mr. Bruer passed into eternal life on Monday, Jan. 5, 2015 at his home in Cleburne. He was born in Sterling, Kansas on Mar. 9, 1928, the son of Velma Ione (Underwood) Bruer and George Harold Bruer.
He proudly served as Sergeant in the United States Army during the Korean War.
John married Donna Long on Dec. 31, 1955 in Larned, Kansas. He was a retired telephone engineer, having worked for numerous different companies during his career.
John was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers; three sisters; and one grandson, SSG Bryan Burgess.
He is survived by his wife, Donna Bruer of Cleburne; daughters, Francene Ferrante and Debi Barber, both of Fort Worth, Texas, Barbra Valerio and husband, John, of Cleburne, and Elisabeth Burgess and husband, Terry, also of Fort Worth; brother, Sylvester “Pete” Bruer of Kankakee, Illinois; sister, Julie McKinney Keesling of Sylvia, Kansas; brothers-in-law, Edwin Gattis of Huntsville, Alabama, Wallace Zimmerman of Fort Worth and Dean Long of Kentucky; grandchildren, Kamille Valerio Willi, Danyelle Barber, Natalia Ferrante, Jessecca Barber, Jonathan Valerio, Jessenia Eller, Carmen Valerio, and Brandi Burgess; great-granddaughters, Nicole Neese, Sophia Eller and Stella Jane Eller; and numerous nephews and nieces.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Community Hospice, 1208-B W. Henderson Street, Cleburne, TX 76033; Cleburne Bible Church, PO Box 1522, Cleburne, TX 76033; or by blood donations to Carter Blood Center in Fort Worth.
