John Buchanan

John Buchanan, 84, retired and former owner of Buchanan and Associates Insurance Agency in Arlington, Texas passed away Friday, April 28, 2017 at his home in Granbury, Texas, after a short illness with cancer. Lanell, his wife of 60 years, was by his side. John was born on March 24, 1933 in Louisville, Mississippi to Lex and Barzie Buchanan.
John made friends wherever he went. He loved the game of golf and there wasn’t a card game he didn’t know how to play. As a young man, he joined the Navy and served on a Destroyer during the Korean conflict. Following his tour of duty, he enrolled in Texas Tech University where he earned a Bachelor’s degree. His career in the insurance industry started shortly thereafter.
John is survived by his wife, Lanell; his son, Mike Buchanan; daughter, Tracie Young and son-in-law, Randy; five grandchildren; and three great grandchildren.
A celebration of life will be held from 2 – 4 p.m. Wednesday, May 3, 2017 at the De Cordova Country Club, 5301 Country Club Dr. Granbury, TX. The family requests no flowers or contributions, but that those who attend bring stories and reminders of their friend John to be shared with all in attendance.
At the close of this celebration of life, the U.S. Navy will honor John’s service to America with military honors.
