Obituary for
Chester Joe Carper
Funeral services for Chester Joe Carper, 84, of Cleburne, Texas will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 8, 2013 in the Rosser Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Keith Whitt officiating. Burial will follow in Cleburne Memorial Cemetery.
The family will receive visitors from 6 – 8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 7, 2013 at Rosser Funeral Home.
Serving as pallbearers will be Cody Anderson, Stevie Hight, Chad Stevens, T.J. Stevens, Austin Pick, and Lane Brookshire.
Honorary pallbearers will be Brian Brookshire, Scott Pick, Luke Brookshire, Scott Myers, Jackson Bayless, Braxton Bayless, Cannon Stevens and Silas Stevens.
Mr. Carper passed away Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2013 at his home. He was born August 13, 1929 at Lone Willow in Johnson County, Texas, the son of Ona Jane (Hutchison) and Thurman Carper.
Joe married Wondra Sue Israel on Feb. 4, 1950 in Cleburne. He worked for Burton Lingo Lumber Company in Cleburne at the time of their marriage. Joe served for eight years in the National Guard and was later employed with Santa Fe Railroad, retiring in 1988 after 36 years of service. He also worked as a mechanic for many years at Bates Garage.
Joe served for many years as a board member and president of the Midway Saddle Club. He was a member of North Cleburne Baptist Church.
Since his retirement, he has enjoyed spending time with his grandkids and great grandkids. Joe’s favorite pastime was playing 42 with friends and family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, sisters, and great granddaughter, Amelia Stevens.
Joe Carper is survived by his wife of 63 years, Wondra Carper of Cleburne; daughters, Marilyn Anderson and husband, Ronnie Mack, Judy Hight, and husband, Johnny, and Patti Rice and husband, Ross; eight grandchildren; and 15 great grandchildren; and special niece, Minnie Hudgins and her daughters.
