William Roy "Bill" Carter
Services for William Roy “Bill” Carter, 82, of Cleburne, Texas will be conducted at 11:30 a.m. Monday, December 29, 2014 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 303 S. Nolan River Rd, Cleburne, TX 76033. Bishop Bond will officiate. A private burial will be held Grange Hall Cemetery in Rio Vista, Texas.
Bill Carter passed away Monday, December 22, 2014 in Cleburne and was born in Barstow, California on November 30, 1932. The son of Cora Bell (Panabaker) and Roy Allen “Dutch” Carter, he was a 1950 graduate of Barstow High School.
On January 13, 1953 he married Delda Tyler in Victorville, California. The Carter’s were self-employed in the sand and gravel business after moving to Texas in the late 1970s.
Bill was a member of the Cleburne Ward of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints; he served as Stephenville Branch President and on the High Council of the Fort Worth Stake. He was owner of Seven States IRA Rodeo Company. In 2013, Bill was awarded as an honorary member of the Johnson County Sheriff’s Posse for his many years of membership and service. He was a hardworking and beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend to all.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Jean Lorraine Van De Walker.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Delda Carter; daughters, Kim and husband, Dub Stepp; Teri and husband, Dale Jones; Tracy Carter, Tris and husband, Grady Black, all of Cleburne; and sister, Donna Strickler of Ruidoso, New Mexico. Grandchildren are Amy Fenn, Josh Stepp, Josey Chadwell, Jacob Chadwell, Maddison Black, Ethan Stepp and Pete Black, all of Cleburne; and Dean Black of Austin. He also leaves behind eight great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
