Obituary for
Allen W. Cates Jr.
Allen Wade Cates, Jr. passed away on March 7, 2018 after a full and adventurous life. Born June 8, 1927, in Philadelphia, PA, Allen was a WWII paratrooper as a teen before graduating in 1950 from Texas A&M (Class of ’49). An engineer, a business executive, a rancher, a retired US Army Reserves officer, and a member of Episcopal/Anglican congregations since 1950, he was married for over 60 years to the love of his life, Mary Virginia. Allen is survived by daughters Karen and husband Steve, Carolyn and husband Michael, Becky and husband Bob, as well as 15 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren and 200 cows. A memorial service celebrating both his life and Life in Christ will be held on Saturday, March 31, 11am at his ranch (6300 CR 1126A, Godley, 76044). In lieu of flowers the family invites donations be made to Lord of the Streets, a church of and for the homeless (3401 Fannin, Houston, TX 77004).
