Services for Janie Jo Ownbey Chafin, 90, of Cleburne, Texas, will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 14, 2017 at First United Methodist Church in Cleburne. The Rev. George Sutton will officiate. Burial will be in Rosehill Cemetery. The family will receive visitors 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, March 13, 2017 at Rosser Funeral Home.
Janie Chafin passed away March 9, 2017 surrounded by her children. Born July 26, 1926, a sixth generation Texan born in Itasca, Texas to Cread and Inez Ownbey. On Feb. 21, 1946 she married the love of her life, Carl E. Chafin and together they raised three children. They placed the church first in the lives, then family, then business. Together, she and Carl owned Chaf-In Restaurant. Her family and home were her greatest joy. Janie was very artistic, an accomplished seamstress, made needlework, loved gardening, cooking, and delivering Meals on Wheels while Carl visited and laughed. She enjoyed her original bridge club for 65 years.
Janie was preceded in death by her husband, Carl E. Chafin.
She is survived by her daughter, Christie Bubak and husband Mike; son, Ralph Chafin and wife, Wyvette; daughter, Caron Nicklas and husband, Rusty; four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; sister, Zelle James; brother, Jim Ownbey; and numerous family members and friends.
