A memorial service for Walton Chambless, 84, of Cleburne will be conducted at 4 p.m. Wednesday, June 29, 2011 at the Rosser Funeral Home of Cleburne. The Rev. Danny Crosby will officiate.
Walton Chambless passed away June 26, 2011 in Cleburne, Texas. He was born on October 11, 1926 in Atlanta, Georgia to Virgil Walton Chambless, Sr. and Gussie Irene Register. A veteran of World War II, Walton served in the Pacific theater with the US Marine Corps from 1944-1946. A graduate of Georgia Tech, he followed a business career for several years until he was called into service as a career missionary with the International Mission Board, S.B.C. He and his wife, Lorena, served 25 years in Latin America, primarily in Mexico and Chile. After retiring from service overseas he moved to Cleburne where he owned and operated the Sonshine Christian Bookstore for five years. He had been a member of the Cleburne Rotary Club, and had served as a board member of the Literacy Volunteers of America in Cleburne. He was also a member of the Johnson County chapter of Gideons, International. In recent years he has served in various ministries of the First Baptist Church in Cleburne.
Walton was preceded in death by his wife, Lorena, who passed away February 24, 2007. He is survived by sons, Larry Chambless and wife Terrie of Cleburne, Eddie Chambless and wife Karen of El Paso, Texas, daughters, Rebecca Falkner and husband Robert of Kansas City, Missouri and Cathy Craven and husband Jim of San Antonio, Texas, a brother, John Chambless of St. Simons, Georgia, sister, Edna Deckbar of Roswell, Georgia, 10 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren.
