A memorial service celebrating the life of Michael Jay Cox, 62, of Rio Vista, Texas will be held at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 19, 2014 in the Rosser Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Anthony Romo officiating.
There is no visitation scheduled.
Mike was born in Abilene, Texas on Jan. 26, 1952, the son of Rosa Allene (Matthews) and Esmond W. Cox and passed away Feb. 16, 2014 in Cleburne, Texas. He was the eldest of three boys and grew up in North Richland Hills, Texas. His family attended North Richland Hills Baptist Church. He graduated from Richland High School in 1970.
Mike married Paulette Nichols and had four children. He loved spending time with his family in the great outdoors. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed waterskiing, golf, riding dirt bikes, playing fast-pitch softball and woodworking.
Mike later married Cindy Storey and had three children. He loved to cook and grill for his family, then spend the evenings schooling them in the game of Spades. Mike also loved to play dominoes (42) and was probably one of the best players around!
He was a very hard worker, retiring from Sears after forty years. But most of all, Mike loved to make people laugh. He kept his family, friends and co-workers in stitches!
Mike is survived by his mother, Allene Cox; brothers, Terry Cox and Darren Cox and wife, Lisa; Paulette Cox Gunter, mother to children: Suzanne and Scott Dusak, Jeremy and Mitzie Cox, Danielle and Jason Vest and Jay and Amber Cox; Cindy Cox, mother to children: Felecia, Lindsey, and Jonathan Cox; aunts and uncles, Lonene and Glenn Crecelius and James and Marianne Matthews; six grandchildren; and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the American Heart Association.
