Sydney Gayle “Memaw” Cox
Sydney Gayle Cox of Godley, TX, 61, went to ride horses with Jesus. She began her trail ride on Thursday, Oct. 27, 2011 after a wrangle with cancer. She was a wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend to many. She attended First Baptist Church of Godley. Sydney was a lover of horses, old country music, movies, her precious dogs, midnight walks, and learning.
Sydney was born August 31, 1950, in Ft. Worth, TX, to Sidney H. and Clova N. Miller. Sydney enjoyed her trip to Germany, several trips to Colorado and to Corpus Christi with her family on vacations. Her favorite pastimes included showing, riding and attending competitions with her horses. She has won numerous trophies and ribbons with Apache, Blondie, and several others from her herd. She excelled in her abilities to break and train horses. Hunting, flea market visits, collecting movies, country C.D.s, and caring for her animals were among her favorite activities. She loved hanging out at the Waffle House with the grandkids.
She was preceded in death by her father, Sidney H. Miller, her mother, Clova N. Miller, and an infant son Daniel Ray Hamilton, Jr.
She is survived by her husband of over 3 decades, Bill Cox of Godley; her children, William D. Cox and wife Paula of Maxwell, Misty Kay Burton of Ft. Worth, Michael Ray Hamilton of North Richland Hills, Bonnie D. Crecy and husband Ronnie of Cleburne, and Tishia Lynne Steele of Ft. Worth; grandchildren, Will Cox, Ethan Anderson, Justin Burton, Mykayla Burton, Brittainy Shirley, William “Cole” Shirley, Kristina Smith, and Brandon Riggs; great-grandchildren, Jacelyn Saddlemire, Kayden Smith, and Ricki Gonzales; brother, Phillip R. Page and wife JoAnn of Agnes; sister, Pam Trammell and husband Rex of Kingsland, AR.; numerous nephews, nieces, cousins; her in-laws; loving friends Katie Barnes, Ron Evans; childhood friend “Bubbles”; and her three companion dogs, Baby, Poncho and Missy.
Services for Sydney will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 31, 2011 at First Baptist Church of Godley with Brother Kenneth Coleman officiating. Burial will follow in the Godley Cemetery. The family will receive visitors 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 30, 2011 at Rosser Funeral Home. Serving as pallbearers will be Michael Shirley, Ron Evans, Ronnie Crecy, Cole Shirley, Peebut McDonald, and Tommy Brown.
