Gwendolyn was born on February 28th, 1932 in Birmingham, Alabama to Earl L. Burton and Norma C. Rathbone Burton. She loved riding horses and did so from an early age. Her love of all animals continued throughout her lifetime. They had 4 children and lived in several states until settling down for retirement on a small farm in Fort Scott, Kansas. Gwen used her talents to accompany children's choirs and church services playing piano and organ and teaching organ lessons in Ft. Scott. She taught Sunday school many years, as well as Vacation Bible School. She was a member of First Southern Baptist Church in Fort Scott, Kansas where she was organist for several years. She loved talking with people of all ages and sharing her wisdom in the knowledge of the love of her Lord Jesus Christ. She was a dear friend to many and got pleasure in creating through painting, sewing, knitting, and all kinds of crafts and giving those creations as gifts.
Continually blessing others with her smile, Gwen spent her final years in Cleburne, arriving home with the Lord on Sunday, December 8th, 2013 following (by nearly 18 months) her beloved Jerry.
