Obituary for June Delight Evans (Weast)

June Delight Evans, 93, of Cleburne Texas, formerly of Amarillo, Texas, died Thursday, January 3, 2013. Private graveside services will be followed by a celebration of June’s life at 1 p.m. Saturday, January 12, 2013 at Westview Christian Church, 6810 Hillside Road, Amarillo, Texas, 79109.

June Delight Weast was born March 1, 1919 in Briscoe County, Texas to George Franklin Weast and Myrtle Davis Weast, the first of two children. After graduating from Silverton High School in Silverton, Texas, in 1935, June attended West Texas State Teachers College in Canyon, Texas, where she received her B. A. degree in August of 1939. June taught at the Union Hill School in Swisher County and then at Phillips Grade School in Phillips, Texas, until 1943.

She married E. T. Evans on July 4, 1943 at her parents’ home in the country near South Plains, Texas.
E. T. and June settled in Amarillo after World War II. June taught first grade for several years at San Jacinto and Avondale schools. They were members of West Amarillo Christian Church where they served faithfully for many years, raising their children, and supporting Christian based education institutions, missionaries, and several Amarillo area institutions for the aging. June cared deeply for her family, especially enjoying the babies and keeping up with each one’s growth. June was a committed prayer warrior for her family and friends.

E. T. and June enjoyed traveling throughout the U.S. and the world. They particularly loved spending time at the family cabin near Aspen, Colorado, and continued to own and be involved with a share of the Weast family farms in Floyd and Briscoe counties. They enjoyed music and supported the Amarillo Symphony Orchestra for many years. After 63 years of marriage and the death of her husband E. T., June moved to Cleburne, Texas in 2009 to be closer to family.

June was preceded in death by her parents, George Franklin and Myrtle Davis Weast; her husband and love of her life E. T. Evans; infant son; and one sister Lucile Smith.
