Thelma Becker Fortney, 99, of Herculaneum, Missouri died July 11, 2019 in Cleburne, Texas. Thelma was born in a boarding house in downtown Festus to her parents Anna Whitt Becker and George P Becker. Her brother, George W. Becker, came along 11 years later and died in 2012. She married her husband, John, in 1946. She was a high-energy wife to John and missed him desperately when he passed away in 1993. Thelma and John never had children.
Thelma loved her hometowns of Festus and Herculaneum, Missouri and she lived almost all of her life in those 2 towns. She worked for the U.S. Department of Defense until her retirement in 1974.
She moved to Texas to be near her brothers family when she decided to give up driving in 2015. She so missed her Missouri family and friends like Joe & Jenny Williams, Irma Pratte, Irene Politte and her next-door neighbor, Joan Turley. She is survived by her niece, Debbie Becker Sullivan (Charles) of Nemo, Texas; her nephew, Bob Becker (Cathy) of Stephenville, Texas; and several great and great-great nieces and nephews.
