Obituary for
Margaret Lee Fraser (Preston)
Margaret Preston Fraser, 82, died Thursday, January 4, 2018 at her childhood home in Cleburne, Texas, surrounded by her family. Margaret was born on October 20, 1935 in Cleburne to Aubrey and Margaret Preston. She graduated from Cleburne High School in 1953 and attended the University of Texas at Austin, where she was a member of Pi Beta Phi and was voted one of the Ten Most Beautiful. She married Charles D. Fraser in 1956 and resided in Midland, Texas until 1996. She was a member of the Junior League of Midland and made many dear friends there, but she was especially devoted to raising her two sons, Chuck and Duncan. The boys were avid tennis players, and Margaret loved attending their tournaments all over West Texas. Always courtside, she was their greatest cheerleader and could not abide by a double fault.
In 1998, Margaret moved back to Cleburne. She lived in the family home where she had been raised with her sisters Mary and Aubrey Lynne. She lived there until her death. Margaret loved Cleburne. She was proud of her Cleburne heritage, especially the contributions made to the town by her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Will Scott, and her beloved Auntie Wright.
Margaret loved to travel, loved to read, and loved history. Everything Margaret did was beautiful. She was beautiful, inside and out, and created beauty wherever she went and in everything she did.
Margaret was a devoted mother and grandmother. She kept in touch with regular phone calls and knew the details not just of her children’s lives but her grandchildren’s and even great-grandchildren.
She is survived by the loves of her life, her two sons, Dr. Charles D. Fraser, Jr. of Houston, Texas and A. Duncan Fraser of Wimberley, Texas, and their spouses Helen Cooley Fraser and Ellen Foreman Fraser. She is also survived by her grandchildren; Laura Nachtigall (David), Charlie Fraser (Kathleen), Gracie Helms (Travis), and Will Fraser; Emily, Meg, Nita, and AJ Fraser; and her three great-grandchildren. Margaret is survived by her loving sisters, whom she called her “little girls”, Mary Preston Whilden and husband, Robert, of Houston, and Aubrey Lynne Preston MacFarren and her husband, Freddy, of Spring Branch, Texas. She loved her nieces and nephews--Lisa, Margie, Robert, Preston, William, Blythe, and Tricia.
The family would like to offer special thanks to her devoted caregivers and friends, Pat, Lois, Minnie, and Heather, and her doctor, Dr. Shirley Jones, for their dedication and kindness to Margaret in her final years.
A celebration of her life will be held at 10 a.m. January 8, 2018, at United Presbyterian Church, 1510 Westhill Drive, Cleburne, TX 76033. The family will gather for a private burial after the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Scott & White Medical Center in Temple, Texas, the University of Texas at Austin, or a charity of your choice.
