Gwendolyn "Gwen" Stevens was born on July 18, 1927 in the small town of Madison, Arkansas to Merwin and Pearl Clark. She was the oldest followed by Joyce Young, Gloria "Dodie" Cook and Gene Clark. Gwen graduated from Forest City High School in Forest City and attended Draughon's Business School in Little Rock, Arkansas where she was a member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. Gwen soon became engaged to and married Eugene Brock Stevens and together had 3 children: David Ramsey Stevens and twins Mark Lee Stevens and Jana Ree Stevens Ramsdale.
When Gwen and Gene divorced, she moved to Texas to be close to her siblings, which became her "village" in raising her kids. She first arrived in Grandview, Texas in early 1960's but several years later settled in Cleburne to continue to work and raise her children. She worked the biggest part of her career at Cleburne Savings and Loan, then moved to another local bank for a short time before retiring.
Retirement was spent traveling with family, a lot of dancing and spending quality time with her grand kids, which some may say "brought her back to life".
Anyone that knew Gwen knew she loved dancing, flowers, the color yellow (Or yellah as she would say), and her 4 grandchildren.
In her late 80's she relocated to the North Texas area to be close to her daughter Jana and son Mark. After a fall and early onset of dementia she spent the next 7 years at Cross Timbers Rehab and Care Center in Flower Mound, Texas close to her daughter. There, she was cared for and loved on by a new family of care givers, nurses and staff for which we are forever grateful for!
Gwen passed peacefully in her sleep the morning of January 2, 2025 after having visits from her kids and other family members. She was laid to rest at Green Acres Memorial Park in Cleburne, Texas on January 9th.
She is survived by her 3 children David, Mark and Jana: 4 Grandchildren Tara Donahue, Devan Stevens, Colton Pollei Stevens, Calista "Cali" Ramsdale, as well as 10 great grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life Ceremony will be held in Southlake Texas on February 22, 2025. For more information you may contact Jana @ 214-405-5559.
