Arleen Virginia Vande Vere Herr
Keene-Graveside services for Arleen Virginia Vande Vere Herr, 86, of Keene, Texas will be conducted at 10 a.m. Sunday, June 24, 2012 in the Keene Memorial Park Cemetery.
There is no visitation planned.
Arleen was born in Lincoln, Nebraska on February 19, 1926. She passed away during the early morning hours of June18, 2012 in Keene.
She attended Union College in Lincoln and was married to John O. Herr in 1946. During their first year they worked in evangelism in Rapid City, South Dakota. From 1947 through 1973, her husband, John, pastured churches in Spearfish and Madison, South Dakota, St. Joseph and St. Louis, Missouri, and Anderson Cicero, and South Bend, Indiana.
Arleen was always in charge of the music programs and was an accomplished pianist and accompanist. She gave piano lessons to children in all the cities they lived in.
In 1974, Arleen and John moved to Keene, Texas where John became a “wills and trusts” representative for the Texas Seventh-day Adventist Conference. While they were members of the Cleburne church, Arleen developed the church choir. She began to compose poems and gospel songs, some of which were published.
They moved their membership to the Keene church, and Arleen organized the Fellowship Singers, a group of Gospel singers who gave concerts in various local churches. She also accompanied a trio, The Melody Three.
Since 1997, she has been a member of the Joshua Seventh-day Adventist Church.
In 2001, Arleen held an exhibition of her oil paintings at the library of SWAU in Keene.
Arleen was preceded in death by her parents, and brother, Earl Vande Vere of Battle Creek, Michigan.
She is survived by her husband of 66 years, John O. Herr; son, Gary and daughter-in-law, Irene, of Keene; daughter, Deanna Herr of Newbury Park, Calif.; granddaughters, Elizabeth Herr Fritz and husband, Dr. Jonathan Fritz of Fort Mill, South Carolina; Rebecca Herr Jacko and husband, Jeremy, of Beverly, West Virginia, LaVonne Scroggs of Pleasanton, Calif., Susanna Herr Loftis and husband, Michael, of Keene, and Leanne Scroggs, of Newbury Park Calif. and four great-grandchildren.
