Obituary for John O. Herr
Keene, TX—John O. Herr, 92, fell asleep in Jesus on July 17, 2013 in Keene, Texas.
Friends may pay their respects at the memorial service planned for 7 p.m. Tuesday, July 30, 2013 at the Joshua Seventh-day Adventist Church, 1912 Conveyor Drive, Joshua, Texas 76058.
Pastor Herr was born in McClusky, North Dakota on March 27, 1921, and was buried at Keene Memorial Cemetery on Friday, July 19, 2013.
He worked 41 years for the Seventh-day Adventist Church as a pastor in South Dakota, Missouri, and Indiana, and in 1973 served as field representative for the Wills and Trusts Department of the Texas Conference of Seventh-day Adventists. The last job took him to churches all over Texas where he preached and made many acquaintances. After retiring in 1988, he found part-time work at Rubbermaid for 12 years.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Arleen VandeVere Herr, who died on June 18, 2012.
He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Gary Herr and Irene Dennison Herr of Keene, Texas; daughter, Deanna Herr of Newbury Park, CA.; granddaughters, Elle Herr Fritz and husband, Jonathan, Becca Herr Jacko and husband, Jeremy, Susanna Herr Loftis and husband, Michael, LaVonne Scroggs and Leanne Scroggs; five great-grandchildren; brothers: Ben Herr and wife Sibyl of Lincoln, NE, Lloyd Herr and wife LaVerne of Keizer, OR, and Jim Herr and wife Carol of Cleburne, TX. Sisters: Elsie Lehmann of Sedalia, MO, Helen Rice of Fargo, ND, Lenora Copsey and husband Don of Avon Park, FL, Darlene Rouse of Avon Park, FL and Shirley Anderson and husband Dr. Gary of Durango, CO and dozens of nieces and nephews.
