Floyd Hobby

Funeral services for Floyd “Pete” Hobby, 79, of Cleburne, Texas will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday, November 15, 2016 at Field Street Baptist Church. Dr. John Hall will officiate, assisted by the Rev. John Glover. Burial will follow in Rosehill Cemetery.
A visitation will be held for family and friends from 6 – 8 p.m. Monday, November 14, 2016 at Field Street Baptist Church.
Serving as pallbearers will be Albert Archer, Jeff Cody, Doug Johnson, David Murdoch, Glenn Parr, Mark Smith, Bill Young and Larry Kelm.
Honorary pallbearers will be the deacon body of Field Street Baptist Church and their wives.
“Pete”, as he was known to family and friends, went to be with his Lord and Savior, surrounded by family and friends on Thursday, November 10, 2016 in Fort Worth, Texas. He was born in Satin, Texas on June 11, 1937, the son of Lexie (Baxley) and Ralph Hobby.
Pete graduated from Chilton High School in 1956. He then served his country in the United States Army and Army Reserves until 1962.
In 1958, Pete entered Corsicana Junior College to play football. Continuing his football career and studies, he played his final two years at Howard Payne College,
completing his Bachelor’s Degree in 1962.
He married Sandra Shaw on August 18, 1962 at Fargo Baptist Church in Vernon, Texas.
Pete was a teacher, coach and education administrator, beginning his teaching career in 1962 at Comanche High School. He and Sandra moved to teach in Lewisville in 1965.
In 1966, the Hobbys made their home in Cleburne where Pete taught Biology and coached at Cleburne High School, becoming Assistant Principal before his retirement.
He was a sponsor of the Interact Club and Youth-to-Youth at CHS.
In 1972, Pete received his Masters Degree of Education from North Texas State University.
He was named CISD Teacher of the Year in 1973, exemplifying excellence in teaching, community involvement, respect and admiration of parents, students and colleagues. Most important was his superior ability to inspire the love of learning in all students from all backgrounds and abilities.
As a Deacon serving in many areas of ministry, he was a long time member of Field Street Baptist Church.
After his retirement from education, Pete joined the Christian Heritage Foundation as executive director when it was formed in 1984.
Pete described the CHF as largely different from other charitable organizations in that it helps churches find people who need help and support in finding a church family. He called this a “service of love”.
Another area of CHF involvement is providing a library for study and educational material for churches to borrow.
In whatever he did, Pete was a quiet, good man who taught by example, showing respect for all people, for learning and for good citizenship. He stood for his convictions and loved America.
Matthew 25:23 speaks to Pete Hobby: “His Lord said unto him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant’…”
The family sends special thanks to Community Hospice House of Texas; the many physicians, nurses and medical staff; and for all those who have prayed and expressed love and support for our family.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Jack Hobby.
Pete is survived by his wife of 54 years, Sandra Hobby; sons, Scott Hobby and Kendal Hobby, all of Cleburne; grandchildren, Turner Hobby of College Station, Texas and Lexie Hobby of Burleson, Texas; brothers, Bill Hobby and wife, Joyce of Austin, Texas and Ted Hobby and wife, Darlene of Tyler, Texas; sister, Jenny Pearce of Georgetown, Texas; many nieces and nephews; and a host of friends and neighbors.
