LTC (Retired) Michael Kelly Hopkins
Funeral services for LTC (Retired) Michael Kelly Hopkins, 68, of Cleburne, Texas will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday, July 6, 2012 in the Rosser Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. John Glover officiating, assisted by the Rev. Johnny Love. Burial will follow in Cleburne Memorial Cemetery.
The family will receive visitors for 6 – 8 p.m. Thursday, July 5, 2012 at Rosser Funeral Home.
Serving as pallbearers are Larry Carlock, Lovell Aldrich, Gary Dollgener, Tim Hopkins, Shane Hopkins, David Hopkins, Manuel Sosa, Jr., and Gary Don Johnson.
Michael passed away on Monday, July 2, 2012 in Fort Worth, Texas. He was born in Fort Worth on August 4, 1943, the son of Leota (Kelly) and Milas Merrell Hopkins, Jr.
Michael served his country in the United States Army until his retirement as Lt. Col.
His service record includes membership in the Studies and Observation Group (SOG), said to be the most secret military unit of the Vietnam War. Made up of Army Green Berets, Air Force Commandos and Navy Seals, the SOG conducted missions behind enemy lines into North Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia.
After his military service, he was the Executive Vice-President of COmputing TechnologieS, Inc.
Michael married Ruth Ann Johnson on July 6, 1989 at MacDill Air Force Base in Florida.
He was a member of Field Street Baptist Church.
Michael was preceded in death by his father, M. M. “Hop” Hopkins.
He is survived by his wife, Ruth Ann Hopkins; mother, Leota Hopkins, both of Cleburne; sons, Tim Hopkins of Tampa, Fla., and Michael Shane Hopkins of Cleburne; daughters, Shannon Hopkins of London, England and Robyn Hopkins of Tampa, Fla.; step-sons Stan Rose and wife, Mimi, of Austin, Texas and Alan Rose of Portland, Oregon.; brother, David Hopkins and wife, Earlene, of Houston, Texas; sister, Nancy Carlock and husband, Larry, of Cleburne; grandchildren, Zachary Hopkins and Michelle Hopkins, both of Cleburne and Hayleigh Hopkins of Tampa, Fla.
