Ruby Mears Johnson
Ruby Mears Johnson, 94, of Cleburne, Texas went to be with her Lord and family on Monday, Sept. 10, 2012, after suffering a stroke.
Ruby was a vivacious, fulfilled, wonderful woman. If you knew her, you loved her. If you got to know her, you would love her. She was a down to earth person with a heart of gold.
Ruby was born in Brazos Point, Bosque County, Texas on Monday, March 18, 1918, to Ethel (Hudson) and Lewis Simpson Mears. After finishing her educations at Brazos Point School, she worked for the school and then later worked for the United States Government until she met and married the love of her life, Clyde Johnson of Kopperl, Texas. They were married in Glen Rose, Texas on Monday, August 7, 1944.
Ruby gave birth to two daughters, Glenna and Barbara and one son, Weldon Otis.
Ruby was a member of The First United Methodist Church of Kopperl where she taught Sunday School for years and VBS every summer.
She was a member of the Cleburne Elk’s Lodge for 15 years.
Ruby was preceded in death by her parents, Lewis and Ethel Mears; husband of 49 years, Clyde Johnson; son, Weldon Otis Johnson; and grandson, Shane Eric Bicknell.
Being number 10 of 15 children, Ruby was also preceded in death by six brothers, J.L. “Short Mears” and wife, Lula, Jack Mears and wife, Alice, Lee Mears and wife, Rosa, Lewis Mears, Jr. and wife, Willa Mae, George Mears and Amos Mears; eight sisters, Ollie King and husband, Willie “Buddy”, Mary Coplin and husband, Martin, Johnnie Harkcom and husband, George, Emma King and husband, Ernest, Rosie Hudson and husband, Jessie, Lizzie Meeks and husband, Glenn, Lois Whitehead and husband, Kermit, and Effie Adams and husband, J.B.
Ruby is survived by her daughter, Glenna Rich and husband, Michael; granddaughter, Shelley Stanley and husband, J.D.; great granddaughter, Tatum Stanley; three great grandsons, Trevor Stanley, Trey Stanley, and Ty Stanley, all of Cleburne; Also considering Ruby as their mother after the loss of his mother is Russell Williams and Gynell, of Brazos Point; special sister-in-law, Louise Mears of Cleburne; special friends, Dewayne Carlock and wife, Angelita, of Cleburne; 18 nieces; 18 nephews; many great and great-great nieces and nephews; and many wonderful friends.
Visitation will be held from 6 – 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 14, 2012 at Rosser Funeral Home.
Celebration of life services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 15, 2012 in the Rosser Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Ethan Newby and Pastor Kody Hughes officiating.
Serving as pallbearers will be great-grandson, Trevor Stanley; friends, Curry Reagan, Dewayne Carlock and John Stanley; and nephews, Paul Moore and Jerry Roberts.
Honorary pallbearers will be great-grandsons, Trey Stanley and Ty Stanley; relatives, Russell Williams, Darryl Schad, Richard Moore, J.D. Stanley, and Doug Scarberry.
Ruby will be laid to rest by her husband in the Morgan Cemetery, Morgan, Texas.
