Julia Reid, aged 90, passed away peacefully Wednesday, February 22, 2023 in Keene Texas surrounded by her children and husband of 68 years.
Born March 12, 1932 in New Egypt, Plumsted Township, New Jersey, Julia Cordwell lived in New Jersey until attending Columbia Union College in Takoma Park, MD. After graduation with a degree in music she married her husband George Wayne Reid on August 28, 1955.
Moving to Oklahoma, her husband pastored multiple churches in the state with Julia directing choirs, providing music and other services to those churches.
Soon they welcomed two children; daughter Deborah in 1958 and son George Jr. in 1960.
In 1967 they moved to Keene Texas where George taught at what is today Southwestern Adventist University. Julia was minister of music, played organ/piano and directed choirs at Fort Worth 1st SDA church, Cleburne Episcopal Church and Keene SDA church. She continued her education at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary receiving a Masters of Music in Choral Conducting.
Having an interest in travel, she opened Burleson Travel Agency in Burleson Texas. After moving to Maryland, she joined her husband working at the General Conference of the Seventh Day Adventists establishing an inhouse travel department. Later she opened Mission Travel and Tours providing affordable travel for individuals and groups.
After returning to Texas and retirement around 85 yrs. of age she continued to enjoy travel, her beloved children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Her last trip out of Texas was to attend the 2022 General Conference Session of SDA in St. Louis MO.
Julia is survived by her husband George Reid Sr.; brother Joseph Cordwell; children Deborah McLaughlin, George Reid Jr, daughter-in-law Patricia Reid; Grandchildren Donald (Ace) McLaughlin and wife Kalee, Alexander McLaughlin and wife Rochelle, Andrew Wayne Reid, James Goodner, Cristal Goodner, Grant Goodner and wife Laura; Great Grandchildren Cora, Hayes, Sophia, and Eva McLaughlin; Ciara, Makenzi, Hunter Goodner; Alexander Biermann, many nieces, nephews and extended family.
Funeral services for Julia Reid will be conducted at 2:00 PM., Sunday, March 5, 2023 in the Keene Seventh-day Adventist Church Chapel. Interment will follow in Keene Memorial Park Cemetery.
Viewing will be held from 1-2:00 PM, Sunday March 5 in the Church Chapel prior to the service.
