The family will receive visitors from 6 – 8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 17, 2013 at Henderson Street Baptist Church.
Calvin passed away of a broken heart on Saturday, Jan. 12, 2013 at Heritage Trails Nursing Home in Cleburne. He was born in Cleburne on Jan. 27, 1932, the son of Galvin and Beatrice Land.
After graduating Cleburne High School, Calvin was drafted to the Air Force. He served two years in Korea. Once back in Cleburne, Calvin got a job with Santa Fe Railroad where he was a welder for 15 years. He then took drafting classes at Tarrant County College and worked at Scarborough Engineering in Fort Worth, Texas where he retired at 65.
Calvin was a member of Henderson Street Baptist Church for most of his life, where he has served as an ordained deacon for many years. He belonged to Cleburne Lodge #315 and was a proud Mason for 50 years.
Calvin had a contagious smile. Always full of great conversation, he never met a stranger.
Calvin took great pride in his cars. He restored a 1955 Chevy which he entered in several car shows, winning first place at most of them.
There was nothing Calvin couldn’t repair, build, or create. Family was his top priority. He loved traveling, being involved with his church and its activities, gun shows, quail and deer hunting. Calvin enjoyed cards with church friends on Friday nights and his brotherhood with his fellow Masons.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife of 60 years, Wanda Ruth Land; and brother, Jerry Land.
Calvin Land is survived by his daughter, Susan Land of Cleburne; brother, Garland Land of Cleburne; sister, Barbara Campbell of Mineral Wells, Texas; nieces, Jeree Land of Fort Worth and Laurie Imboden of Mineral Wells; nephews, Paul Land of Florida and Randy Campbell of Cleburne.
