Lillie Katherine Nelson

Lillie Katherine (Smith) Nelson, 89, was born October 7, 1935 in Dallas, Texas to Albert Daniel Smith and Mamie Dee (Stringer)Smith.

Lillie died January 3, 2025 at Chisholm Trail Estates in Keene, Texas and is resting in Jesus until He returns.

She was a lifelong nurse and the first director of the operating room at Huguley Memorial Hospital when it initially opened.

She married Stuart L. Nelson, MD on September 9, 1979 in Keene, Texas. 

With that union, the families blended. Children include: Angelia Kay (Garner) Montoya (Leroy), Jeffrey Stuart Nelson, Gregory Alan Nelson, Alisa Karen (Garner) Hill (Travis), Randal Todd Nelson (Elle), Marlon Duane Nelson, Robert Kevan Nelson (Qianzhen), Christopher Mark Garner (Judy), and Marilyn Lianne (Nelson) McConnell. She has numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Her passions were in the service of her church family at the Keene SDA Church where she was a head deaconess and an ordained elder. She enjoyed hospitality, sewing, Loops of Love, cooking and caring for the sick and injured. 

She was preceded in death by her husband of 37 years, her parents, two older brothers and an older sister. Her younger brother Teamon D.Smith (Cheryl) survives her. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Keene SDA Church in Lillie’s name. 

A memorial service will be held Sunday, January 26, 2025, at 11am in the Keene Seventh Day Adventist Church Sanctuary, 114 S. Fairview, Keene, Texas 76059.
