Obituary for
James L. Mannan
Funeral services for James L. Mannan, 89, of Cleburne, Texas will be conducted at 10 a.m. Wednesday, October 5, 2016 at Rosser Funeral Home. Burial will follow at 2:15 p.m. at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 7-9 p.m., Tuesday, October 4, 2016 at Rosser.
Serving as pallbearers will be Sonny Hollingsworth, Kelly Henderson, Paul Henderson, Ivan Mannan, David Ellis and Steve Mannan.
James L. Mannan, born September 9, 1927, was called home to God on September 28, 2016.
He was born in Big Lake, Texas, and raised in Petersburg, Texas. He completed two years of high school. James enlisted in the US Army in 1945 in Plainview, Texas. He was a vehicle mechanic in the army and was stationed at Ft. Bliss, TX, Aberdeen, MD., Atlanta GA, and Hawaii. He was honorably discharged in 1947. Mr. Mannan worked as a farm hand and at various times traveled to harvest wheat. During his travels, he ended up as the cook after his co-workers tasted his cooking.
James married Geneva D. McCurdy on December 15, 1949. He worked as a brick and rock mason, as well as a roughneck in the west Texas oil fields. After being injured in the oil fields he used his GI Bill and went to school in Dallas where he received his Federal Communication Commission, First Class Radio Telephone Operator License. He worked at KVBC in Farmington, New Mexico as a radio station engineer. After receiving Jesus as his savior and a miracle healing from God he worked in the construction industry as a Hod carrier in Farmington. In 1961 he moved to California and went work as a welder’s assistant and laborer. In 1964 he moved back to Texas and went to work as a machinist and joined the machinist union. James retired in 1985.
He was known as “Red” and “JL” to many of his family members and friends. He was loved by all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Geneva Mannan; parents, Howard and Gertrude Mannan; three brothers, Frank, Alvin, and Joe; sister, Margaret Elwanda Henderson and husband, Lewis Henderson.
James is survived by his companion, Barbara Paskenails; sons, Jimmy and wife, Cheryl, Howard Lee and companion, Mary, and Stephen and wife, Cindy ; daughter, Susy Patrick; grandchildren, Daniel and David Mannan, Pamela Peterson, Ivan Mannan, Robert “Sonny” Hollingsworth, Tina Hollingsworth-Degn, Jeremiah Laningham, and Cheyenne, Krista and Aydin McDougle; 24 great grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren; brothers, Henry Mannan and wife, Vicki, and Tom Mannan and wife, Londa; sister, Nelda Sue Mannan; sisters-in-law, Cleta Mannan, Margaret Mannan Bills and Mildred McCurdy; brother-in-law, Darrel McCurdy and wife, Myrna; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends.
