Happy went home to be with Jesus at 87 years of age, on Thursday, June 27, 2024, surrounded by family. Happy was born in Dallas on November 16, 1936. She graduated from Cleburne High School in 1955 and Texas Wesleyan Nursing School in 1958. Happy worked over 50 years as a registered nurse. She worked 28 years for Johnson County Sheriff's Department as the first full-time County Nurse. Happy served under four Sheriff's, Stuart Huffman, Eddy Boggs, Martin Griffin, and Bob Alford. With Texas Commission on Jail Standards Happy established the first jail medical division in the county and worked with the Dr. Arthur Raines for the Medical Examiner office doing M.E. Calls and autopsies. Happy left a very large footprint of service to this county.
Besides Happy's civic duties she was a working mother to her only child, Brad and her 3 stepchildren, which she lovingly raised as her own from a previous marriage: Debi, Robert and Melody. She was devoted to her work, her family, and friends, she was self-less, compassionate, fun-loving with a giving nature to everyone. She was also a prankster and enjoyed making people laugh.
Happy married the love of her life, Richard Wayne "Dickie" Morris on March 21, 1981. They had 24 happy, loving years of marriage and enjoyed hunting, traveling, sports and their beloved pets.
Happy was adopted from Hope Cottage in Dallas by Kelly and Ethel Stephens of Cleburne in 1936. In 1990, Happy found and was reunited with her birth mother, Juanita Leopard of Dallas. Her mother Juanita lived to be 103 years old. She established loving relationships with her and her family in Dallas.
Happy was preceded in death by husband Richard "Dickie" Morris, birth mother, Juanita Leopard, adoptive parents, Kelly and Ethel Stephens, adoptive sister, Patsy, uncle, Robert Bell, and beloved grandson, Patrick Stephen Lemley.
Happy is survived by son and wife, Stephen Brad Lemley and Jean Chang of Cleburne, step-children, Debi Schultz and her husband Mike of Abilene, Robert Walls of Austin, and Melody Walls Light of Cleburne, half-sister, Betty Jean Sosa of Dallas, half-brother, Robert "Buddy" McClanahan of LA, brother-in-law and wife, Donnie and Sandra Kay Morris of Marietta, OK, her precious grandchildren, Marcus Schultz and wife Andrea of Fulshear, TX, Monte Schultz and wife Amy from Houston, Matthew Walls of Austin, and Michael Wasie Earley of Cleburne. Happy's great-grandchildren are Mason & Madelyn Schultz and Aubree Layne Earley. Her nieces are Kristi SoSa Hearndon & sons, Stephen and Jon of Dallas, Carol Scott Webb of GA, Christine Scott Thomsen and husband Steve of OR, and nephews, Paul SoSa of IN and Rob McClanahan of AZ.
Her lifetime dear friends, co-workers, and family were Jo Martin, Margie Smith, Charlene Yoes, Mary Moser, Ann Brown, Denise and Mark Jones and family, Carol and Gary Rose, Jeff Rose, and Tedra Fuller, the entire Morris family, and Judge Wayne Bridwell.
Happy's beloved pet "Murphy" was her constant companion after her husband passed away and they moved into Wren Place/Cleburne Court in January 2019. The family would like to express their sincere gratitude for their loving care of Happy, including the Director, Dawn Taylor, Lori, Monica, Rita, Karsyn, Brandy, Leah, Alma, Heather, Terry, Shorty, Yessi, Mary, Janis, Sandy, Marla and all the other staff.
