Mary Virginia Cowen

Mary Virginia Shaw Cowen, beloved wife, mother, mother-in-law, cousin, aunt, and friend, was called home to her heavenly home on December 11, 2024, at the age of 95. She was born on July 4, 1929, in Cleburne, Texas, to Leila Engeldow Shaw and Martin A. Shaw.

Mary graduated from Cleburne High School in 1947 and went on to lead a life full of devotion to her family and her church, Field Street Baptist Church. She married her love, J Cowen, on June 21, 1952, and together they built a life rooted in faith and love. Mary worked for over 40 years in the banking industry, earning the respect and admiration of her colleagues.

A lifelong member of Field Street Baptist Church, she found great joy in her church family and in serving others. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, J Cowen, on March 1, 2005, and her daughter, Christy Cowen Lindauer, on April 22, 2018.

Mary is now reunited with her husband and daughter in the presence of her Lord. She leaves behind a legacy of kindness, strength, and unwavering faith that will be cherished by all who knew her.

Mary is survived by her son-in-law, John Lindauer of Lubbock, her sister-in-law, Patsy Cowan of McKinney, several cousins, numerous nieces, nephews, and many other family members and friends who will remember her for her grace, strength, and her beauty and youthfulness, even at the age of 95.

A Graveside Service will be held on Saturday, December 14, 2024, at 1:00 PM at Rosehill Cemetery in Cleburne, Texas. 

In accordance with Mary’s wishes, the family requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Field Street Baptist Church.
