Sara Ann Matthews (Tipps)
Sara Ann Matthews, 84, of Farmers Branch, Texas, passed away Saturday, November 26, 2016 in Cleburne, Texas. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 3, 2016 at Historic Frankford Church in Dallas. The Reverend Sam Underwood will officiate. Burial will follow at Frankford cemetery. A visitation for family and friends will be held from 1-2 p.m. prior to the service.
Sara was born on July 20, 1932 in Wilson, Oklahoma to Cora Lee (Coleman) and Louis Horace Tipps. She graduated from Marietta High School in Marietta, Oklahoma in 1950. She met Bill Matthews at Ardmore Air Force Base in Ardmore, Oklahoma and they married June 17, 1958. Sara and Bill enjoyed military life for many years and traveled overseas. Sara worked in Dallas as an executive assistant for several accounting and realty firms. After her husband’s untimely death, she sent all three of her children to college and continued her love of international travel. Sara was a loving daughter, wife, mother, and sister. She was also a devoted and cherished friend. She loved the Lord and felt that he must have a sense of humor since laughter and good humor were so important to her. Prior to moving to Cleburne, Sara was an active member of First Baptist Church in Farmers Branch for many years.
Sara was preceded in death by her grandparents, W.L. and Emma Coleman; her parents; her stepfather, Leslie F. Noell; brother, Louis Horace Tipps, Jr.; and husband, William Harris Matthews, Major, USAF ret.
She is survived by daughters, Rebecca Haynie and husband, Jeff, of Double Oak, Texas; Maureen Benke and husband, Ted, of Cleburne; son, Billy Matthews and wife, Angie, of Denton, Texas; brothers Les Noell and wife, Barbara Arnold, of Orlando, Florida; Jeff Noell and wife, Paula, of Glen Rose, Texas; grandchildren, Sarah Benton and husband, Brandon, Andy Benke, Abi Benke, Tommy Benke, William Matthews, and James Matthews; great-grandchildren Hadleigh Benton and Major Benton; and multiple nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, 13017 William Dodson Parkway, Farmers Branch, Texas 75234, Reverend Sam Underwood, Pastor, or to the charity of your choice.
She was dearly loved and will be missed.
