Obituary for Thelma Lee McClure (Rosser)

Funeral services for Thelma Lee Rosser McClure, 90, a resident of Cleburne, Texas for 85 years before moving to Riddle, Oregon for the past 5 years, will be conducted at 3 p.m. Monday, October 30, 2017 at the Westhill Church of Christ. Burial will follow in Rosehill Cemetery.
A visitation for family and friends will be held from 2 – 4 p.m. Sunday, October 29, 2017 at Rosser Funeral Home.
Thelma was born to Seby & Georgie "Joy" Rosser on May 6, 1927 in Cleburne, Texas at home on the Rosser family dairy located on County Road 310.
She grew up milking cows and often told stories about her and her sister, Rena, riding one of their cows to school. Thelma attended the Friendship School until going on to Cleburne High School, graduating in 1944.
After high school, Thelma worked at JC Penny’s in Cleburne. She fell in love with John Franklin McClure Jr. and they married on July 3, 1948, in Alvarado, Texas. John and Thelma owned an auto parts store, McClure Company, in Cleburne which eventually became So-Lo Auto Parts. They raised three children, Gay Nell, Denora Kay and John Franklin III.
Thelma’s life was her family and her devotion to the church. Growing up she learned from her mother how to teach and make various visuals for children’s Bible classes. Her faith was strong and one of her joys was seeing little children excited to hear God’s word. Thelma had a lifelong love of making flip charts, hosting or going to visual making workshops, teaching Bible class and running the supply or “Seed Room”, as she liked to call it, where she and Hazel Given made a large amount of the materials for the teachers to use. She thoroughly enjoyed being a part of, what John named; the “Visual Aid Mafia” and she made many memories with that group of ladies. Thelma also loved attending plays in Cleburne with her sister Velda. She attended Central and Westhill Church of Christ the majority of her life, along with Richland Hills Church of Christ and Tri-City Church of Christ. In the 1970s and 1980s, John and Thelma helped support the beginning of Tri-City Church of Christ in Oregon, which is where she attended while living in Riddle.
John and Thelma were married and she helped run their business for over 51 years, locking the door and closing it up the day John passed away. John often called her his Bride. They liked traveling to automotive conventions, seeing sights across the country together, spending time doing many things with their family, hosting dinners, and taking people out for a meal at some of their favorite places.
Thelma also took pleasure in working in her yard and painting. Her laugh was contagious and unique. You knew she was in the room even if you hadn’t seen her yet. She had a lighthearted spirit and love that was immeasurable.

Thelma was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, John Franklin McClure Jr.; parents, Seby and Georgie “Joy” Rosser; brothers, James and Melvin Rosser; sister, Rena Hudzietz; nephews Bart Hale and Jamie Rosser; niece Sonja Dell Bradley; and great granddaughter Brooke Kortum Hackett.
She is survived by her children, Gay McClure Love of Cleburne, TX, Denora (Erwin) Hackett of Riddle, OR and John McClure III of Cleburne, TX; brother, Gene Rosser of Cleburne, TX; sister, Velda Maupin of Grandbury, TX; sister-in-law, Angie Rosser of Cleburne, TX; grandchildren, Robert (Michele) Love of Dallas, TX, Robin Watkins of Plano, TX, Dawn (Toby) Mills, Erwin (Eileen) Hackett and Cody (Tami) Hackett, all of Riddle, OR and Austin (Ashley) McClure of Godley, TX; great-grandchildren, Caroline, Claire and Charles Love of Dallas, TX, Alec Brannon and Ryan Watkins of Plano, TX, Dylan, Emma and Ethan Hackett of Riddle, OR and Byron and Hadley McClure of Godley, TX; nephews, Loyd(Sheryl) Hudzietz, Monty (Kim) Rosser, Stacey (Chelly) Rosser, Perry (Mindi) Rosser, Scott Rosser, Lance (De'Anna) Rosser, Ben (Laurie) Hale, Mike Rosser, Kevin (Randy) McClure, Scott (Teresa) McClure; nieces Gwen Anderson, Sheila (Lynn) Meeks, Lesa (Robert) Curtis, Debbi (Scott) Buttterbaugh; and late husband John's cousin, Bill (Jan) McClure.
She also had numerous great-nephews and great-nieces. Her 90 years of living were filled with many close relationships that she held very dear but are too countless to mention.
We thank you for loving her!
