Obituary for Joylee McCoy (Zachary)

Funeral services for Joylee Zachary McCoy of Cleburne, Texas will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, February 23, 2018 at Rosser Funeral Home in Cleburne. Burial and graveside services will be conducted following the service at 3 p.m. at Sparkman Hillcrest Memorial Park, 7405 NW Hwy, Dallas, TX 75225.
Visitation will be held at Rosser Funeral Home from 6 – 8 p.m. Thursday, February 22, 2018. Honorary pallbearers will be John Tanner, Joey Tanner, Jeff Kennon, Justin Kennon, Joshua Kennon and Zachary McCoy.
Joylee passed away on February 18, 2018. She was born in Dallas on May 28, 1942 to Dr. Raymond August Zachary and Eileen Spurgeon Zachary, who preceded her in death along with her brother, Wayne Zachary.
Joylee attended Hillcrest High School and Baylor University. She stated that her calling in her life at age 17 was to marry a man of faith and love and to rear a family based on God’s Word. She married Gary D. McCoy on April 16, 1965 and shared almost 53 years together.
Joylee worked from her home for several companies including Home Interiors & Gifts and Amway, and was the bookkeeper for Gary’s businesses. She was a stay-at-home wife and mother who volunteered for many organizations including Relay for Life, Carnegie Players and the Plaza Theatre in Cleburne. She enjoyed singing in church choirs during high school and college, served as an elementary room mother for several years and was a Lifetime Member of the PTA. She served as President for several years at the high school level.
Joylee enjoyed many activities, including playing piano, sewing for herself and her family, square dancing with Gary in Dallas, Cleburne and other clubs in the Metroplex, and spending time with her family.
Joylee was baptized when she was twelve years old and was a faithful Southern Baptist throughout her lifetime. She was a member of many church organizations and groups including the Baptist WMU, missions, teaching choir for four-year-old children and participated in hand bell choirs in several churches. She also taught a Jr. High girls’ Sunday school class for several years. As a member of International Missions Sunday School, she taught English to wives of visiting international physicians. Her civic organizations included the Federated Women’s Club and several book clubs. She began volunteering for Meals on Wheels at a young age delivering with her mother in Dallas and continued delivering meals to include five years with Gary after his retirement.
Joylee is survived by her devoted husband, Gary D. McCoy Sr. of Cleburne; daughters, Dawn Tanner and husband, John, of Cleburne; and Paige Kennon and husband, Jeff, of Lubbock; son, Gary D. McCoy Jr. and wife, Sheryl, of Cleburne; eight grandchildren: Katie Tanner, Joey Tanner, Abby Tanner, Krista Kennon, Justin Kennon, Joshua Kennon, Zachary McCoy and Virginia McCoy; brother, Ray Zachary of Austin and long time friend since junior high, Mimi Wold and husband, Ted of Winnfield, LA.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made in Joylee’s name to Meals on Wheels or to charity of choice.
