Byron Bennett Merritt
Funeral services for Byron Bennett Merritt, 85, of Cleburne, Texas will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jul 15, 2014 at the Westhill Church of Christ. Burial will follow in Greenacres Memorial Cemetery.
The family will receive visitors from 6 – 8 p.m. Monday, Jul. 14, 2014 at Rosser Funeral Home.
Mr. Merritt passed away Friday, July 11, 2014 in Fort Worth, Texas. He was born in Prescott, Ark. on Sept. 16, 1928, the son of Norman Frank and Lillie B. (Moore) Merritt.
Byron received his degree from Abilene Christian College and was retired from Johnson County Electric Co-op. He served his country as a Captain in the Texas National Guard and was a member of Westhill Church of Christ.
Byron married Mary Sue Holland in 1951 and from that union were born four children: Marcia, Milly, Melissa and Brett.
Byron and Nelda (Robinson) Nolan Merritt were married on April 29, 1989 in Baytown, Texas.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Milly Merritt Martinez; four brothers and one sister.
Byron Merritt is survived by his wife, Nelda Merritt of Cleburne; sons, Byron Brett Merritt and wife, Elizabeth, of Chandler, Ariz. and Walter Nolan and wife, Tricia, of Baytown; daughters, Marcia Merritt Shaw and husband, Jeff, of Suquamish, Wash., Melissa Kay Tivis and husband, Randy, of Amarillo, Texas, Hattie Nolan Surles and husband, Thomas, of Baytown, Paula Pauley and husband, Tom, of Cleburne, Barbara Freeman and husband, James, of Flint, Texas and Robin Sheppard and husband, Mike, of Baytown; 21 grandchildren and 36 great grandchildren.
