Joan passed away on Thursday December 12, 2024, in Dallas. She was born February 19.1933 in Kaufman County, Texas to John Leonard Rogers and Ethel (Edwards) Rogers. She married Rodney P. Williams on September 3, 1955 in Dallas.

As a military wife, Joan took pride in her ability to creatively and quickly make any dwelling into a lovely home for her family. Whether it was assigned base housing, a rented cottage, or a home she and Rodney had bought — from Mississippi to Scotland, from Washington to Japan, and at other points in between, her family knew that within a very few days of the movers’ departure, the jungle of packing crates and boxes would soon be gone, and in their place would be a warm, familiar, beautiful home. When she finally placed the copper tea kettle on the stove top, it meant, “We are home.”

Joan took her role as Colonel Williams’ wife seriously, not only in her unfailing support of her husband, but also in the support of the wives of the young men led by her husband. She walked with them through times of grief and she celebrated with them in times of joy.

She served in virtually every church the family attended, teaching Sunday School in some and singing in the choir in all of them. Finding a church home was the first order of business at every new assignment, and when Rodney retired from the United States Air Force and they settled in Cleburne, it was no different. She and Rodney quickly became members of Field Street Baptist Church, serving and worshipping there for more than 40 years.

Joan was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Lanny G. Rogers; her beloved husband, Rodney; her son Rodney Pat Williams Jr.; and one grandson, Jordan Lewis. Survivors include her daughters, Cynthia Williams Young and husband Sam of San Marcos and Susan Johnson and husband Zane of Granbury; grandchildren, Anna Kate Lewis, Samuel J. Young, Zachary Johnson and wife Melanie, Mallory Johnson, Mary Wagley, and Michelle Boone; granddaughter-in-law Elizabeth Lewis; great grandchildren, Ethan Hinojosa, Annie Lewis, and Zane Johnson; brother, Malcom Rogers and wife Grace of Grapevine,; sisters Phyllis Unrein and husband Pat of Topeka, Kansas and Patsy Johnson of Houston; her caregiver, Tamara Cooper; and several other extended family members and friends.
