Obituary for Raymond Anton Monge

A memorial service for Raymond A. Monge (Col USAF, Ret.) will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, June 25, 2016 in the Rosser Funeral Home Chapel with Father Sergio Rizo officiating.

Burial with military honors will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, June 24, 2016 at the Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery.


Raymond passed away peacefully in his sleep on May 24, 2016, in Dallas. He was born in Mark, Illinois on September 28, 1922, the son of Annetta (Faletto) and Julio Monge. In December 1945, he married the love of his life Myra Louise Nickelson, while attending Army Air Core Flight School in San Marcos, TX.

They were married for 70 years and had five children. Throughout his life, Ray was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He was a devout Catholic and enjoyed singing in the church choir. He was an avid golfer and could be found on the greens whenever the weather allowed.

Ray proudly served in the U.S.A.F. achieving the rank of Colonel before retiring in June 1979. During his military career, he flew T-29s, B-47s, C-123s and the KC-135 aircraft. He also served as a unit commander in the early days of the Minuteman missile program.

He received two Distinguished Flying Cross Citations for combat missions during the Vietnam War as well as two Legion of Merit Citations for service at the Pentagon during the Vietnam War and later with the Strategic Air Command.

Col. (Ret.) Monge was preceded in death by his parents, wife Myra, sister Betty Logalbo and brother in law Frank, brother Dominick Monge and sister-in-law Gloria, and sister in law Jean Bradley.

Col (Ret.) Monge is survived by Mark Monge and wife, Darelynn, of Omaha, NE., Gary Monge and wife, Betty, of Orlando, FL. and David Monge and partner, Ken Jenkins of Dallas, TX; daughters, Michele Hassani and husband, Alex, of Baltimore, MD and Sandi McVay and husband, Jim, of Omaha, NE; brother-in-law, Terry Bradley and wife, Dawn, of Ovalo, TX; 11 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be sent to St. Joseph Catholic Church, 807 N. Anglin St., Cleburne, TX 76031.
