Obituary for James Nowell Newton Sr.

Service for James Nowell Newton, Sr., 94, of Cleburne, Texas, will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 12, 2017 at DFW National Cemetery in Dallas, Texas. The Rev. George Fisk will officiate. Paul G. Hill and Lee Feris will sing.
James N. Newton, Sr. was born in Baird, Texas on March 15, 1923 to Roland Vaughan Newton and Irene Elizabeth McCarty Newton. He died at his home in Cleburne, Texas on July 5, 2017, where he was lovingly cared for by his wife, Rita, and Mission Hospice.
Jim was a graduate of Marshall High School and The University of Texas at Austin where he received a Bachelor’s Degree in Business. He served honorably during World War II in the Pacific Theater where he was a Quartermaster First Class in the United States Navy.
He was employed for most of his working life by Stanolind/Pan American/Amoco Energy Company where he was an Administrative Supervisor until his retirement in 1980.
He was a life-long United Methodist and a 32nd Degree Mason who received his 50 Year Pin several years ago.
Jim married Rita Newton on April 22, 2008 in Honolulu, Hawaii.
He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Laverne R. Newton; siblings, David Newton, Aileen Faucett, Nell Glynn, Jean Stewart, Bill Newton, Donna Perry, and Jack Griggs Newton.
Jim is survived by his wife, Rita Newton; son, James (Jim) Newton, Jr. and wife, Melissa Graham; and grandson, Jeremy Newton and wife, Shahreen Abedin; and granddaughters, Sophie and Laura Cate; and two great grandsons; along with numerous nieces and nephews; step-sons, Steven Brumfield, Roy Brumfield, Jeff Brumfield and wife, Jo, Gary Brumfield and wife, Jami; step-daughters, Susie Wildes and husband, Billy, Christine Daly and husband, Jeff, Tiffany Fox and husband, Cody, along with 14 step-grandchildren.
