Mr. Petty passed away on Saturday, Feb. 25, 2012 in Rio Vista, Texas. He was born Aug. 26, 1940 in Johnson County to J.C. Petty and Mary Bicknell Petty.
James loved his family, gospel music, coon hunting, and fishing. Mr. Petty had recently taken up wood working and nearly everyone who came to visit him received a bird house. He also made doll cradles, which he donated to Operation Blessing along with a doll for each cradle. James and wife, Joyce loved kids and always had one around. The most recent was his precious two year old great-grandson, Faron Petty. Faron would come in the house and pat his great grandpa on the arm and say “poor papa-he sick”. Mr. Petty was a good husband, father and provider. He was generous to his family and friends. James was a great cook, he would cook dinner for Joyce every night after he retired because she continued to work.
James Petty will be greatly missed by his family and friends, especially his coon hunting buddy, Wallace Steelman. He will have reunification with his father J.C. Petty, son, Randy, and his two babies, James Nathan and Mary Helen who both died at birth.
