Phyllis immediately started working as a public school music teacher and choir director in Gruver. She also taught elementary music in Wylie.
In 1979, Phyllis decided to make a career change and become a florist. On July 4th, she married Gary Wayne Robinson where together they successfully operated Friou Floral in Cleburne for over fifteen years.
But education called Phyllis back home. She returned to school, teaching music in Godley. Her ten years in Godley were her fondest memories and she remained friends with teachers and families long after her retirement.
