Ruth Ellen Hansard

Ruth Ellen Hansard passed away peacefully at the age of 91 on January 12, 2025 in Cleburne, TX.

 She was born in Cleveland, OK in 1933 to John Levier Campbell and Hannah Gertrude (Collins) Campbell. 

 Following graduation in 1951 from Hobbs High School, Hobbs, NM, she married Robert Noel Lewis, Sr. who was a Minister of Music/Pastor in the Baptist church. They had three children, Susan, Robert (Bob) Jr. and Kimberly. Ruth loved her role of mother and being a pastor’s wife, serving alongside her husband until he passed away in 1975.

 In 1978 she married Jack Hansard in Hobbs, NM. Ruth’s dedication to the Lord and her mission in life to serve others continued and were reflected in numerous ways. She often said she had a heart willing to help others. To quote Ruth, “The scripture says that if you want to be great in God’s kingdom, then you must be a servant to all.”

 She was the Director of New Haven Children’s Home in Hobbs from 1981 to 1984. For 23 years, 1988 to 2012, she was Director of the Manna Outreach Ministries Homeless Shelter in Hobbs. She retired in 2012, and she and Jack moved to Cleburne that fall to be closer to family. Ruth was a member of Field Street Baptist Church.

 She is survived by her husband, Jack, of Cleburne; daughter, Susan (Lewis) Hester and husband, Carl, of Lovington, NM; son, Robert Lewis, Jr. and wife, Elaine, of Cleburne; daughter, Kim Lewis and wife, Tomi Hollis, of Fort Worth; stepson, Jody Hansard and wife, Martha, of Goleta, CA; stepdaughter, Sandra Hansard of Cleburne; stepdaughter, Merrideth Pederson and husband, Charlie, of Palmer, TX; stepson, Jason Hansard of Lubbock; and stepson, Victor Hansard of Lago Vista, TX.

Her grandchildren include Jeremy and Jill Lewis of Flower Mound; Aaron and Andrea Lewis of Celina; Kristen Hester of Fort Worth; Christopher and Rachel Hester of Tyler; Gregory and Brittany Nidy of Shallowater; and Brande and Judd Perkins of Lubbock; 18 great-grandchildren; her sister, Willa Cody, husband, Jerry, of Lubbock; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

 She was also preceded in death by her brother, Harold Campbell and wife, Kay; brother, Donald Campbell and wife, Imogene; brother, Bobby Campbell; sister Catherine Sikes and husband, John; and sister, Wilma Clampitt and husband, Max.

 Her celebration service is set for 10:30 a.m. Friday, January 17, 2025, at Rosser Funeral Home in Cleburne. A visitation will be held from 9:30 - 10:30 a.m. prior to the service. Burial will follow at Rosehill Cemetery, Cleburne.

 In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Spirit of Sharing Ministry, Field Street Baptist Church, 201 N Field St, Cleburne, TX 76033.

 Her family would like to express their grateful appreciation for the loving care provided by the staff of Ridgeview Village Rehabilitation Center and Wings Over Texas Hospice.
