Obituary for Margaret Schick (Baker)

Funeral services for Margaret Schick, 91, of Cleburne, Texas will be conducted at 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 2, 2013 at the Ascension Lutheran Church. The Rev. Joe Ardy will officiate. Burial will follow in Greenacres Memorial Park.
The family will receive visitors from 4 - 6 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 1, 2013 at Rosser Funeral Home.
Mrs. Schick passed away Thursday, Nov. 28, 2013 in Cleburne. Margaret was born in Cleburne on April 28, 1922, the daughter of Della May (Hall) and Leonard B. Baker.
She married Bill Schick on Jan. 27, 1961 in Cleburne.
In the 1950’s, Margaret was an assistant funeral director and drove the ambulance for Dillon’s Funeral Home. She was one of the first female disc jockeys in the area when she worked at KCLE. Later she and Bill were the first owners of Putt-Putt Golf along with the snow cone stand. She was also the owner of Sun Catchers of Texas.
Margaret worked for a time in real estate and insurance and was also the Life Style editor for the Cleburne Times Review, writing the Howdy Folks column until retiring.
She was a sweetheart of the Rotary Club and was a member of Ascension Lutheran Church where she played the organ for over 40 years.
Margaret was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Brantley Baker.
She is survived by her husband, Bill Schick of Cleburne; sons, Billy Schick, Jr and wife, Rita, of Grand Prairie, Texas and Steve Schick and wife, Mary, of Cleburne; grandchildren, Brandon Schick of Grand Prairie and Jeffrey Schick of Dallas, Texas; and brother, Thomas McKinley Baker and wife, Barbara, of Arlington, Texas.
