Obituary for Naomi Ruth Scott (Nelms)

Services for Ruth Nelms Scott, of Cleburne, Texas will be conducted at 2 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 5, 2017 at First United Methodist Church in the Chapel. There will not be a set visitation. Burial will be in the Greenacres Mausoleum.
Ruth passed away Friday, December 1, 2017, at Santa Fe Trails. She was born August 16, 1920, in Marshall County, Tennessee, the daughter of Avon E. and Ocia Clift Nelms. She graduated from Cornersville (TN) High School as valedictorian of her class, then continued her education at Nashville Business College.
In 1941, she married Wilbur Jack Scott, and they lived briefly in Florida, Pennsylvania, and Kentucky, before settling in Fort Worth. She worked for thirty-seven years as an Executive Assistant at General Dynamics (later Lockheed-Martin Aeronautics). Then she relocated to Cleburne, where she retired. .
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Marilyn Ruth Whittenburg; two sons, Steven and Kenneth; a grandson, Brandt Castles; an older sister, Merle Short, and an older brother, Ward Nelms.
She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Camilla and Vance Castles of Cleburne; a son, Jack Scott, Jr., Houston; two granddaughters, Lindsay Castles, and Heather Clark and husband Tom Clark , Coppell, Texas; three great-grandchildren, Marilyn Paige, Natalie, and Hayden Clark, and a brother and sister-in-law, Ben and Elizabeth Nelms, Columbia, Missouri.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Cleburne Education Foundation, 505 N Ridgeway Dr #195, Cleburne, TX 76033.
