Sharan Elaine Northrop Hoskins, a devoted woman of faith and family, passionate angler, and a cherished member of her community, passed away at the age of 66 after a valiant battle with liver cancer. Born on July 18, 1957 in Wilson, North Carolina, to Bobbie Jean and Richard “Dick” Northrop, Sharan grew up surrounded with animals, which fostered her lifelong love for the outdoors and fishing.
After attending Chisholm Trail Academy from 1972-1975, she graduated early from Cleburne High School in 1975. She started working at the bank in Keene, and then took a job in the insurance industry in Houston in 1978. After moving to Washington State in 1996, and then to Keene in 1998, she remained in Keene for the rest of her life. Sharan had a successful career as an insurance agent.
In 1991, Sharan welcomed her son Zak into her life. In 2004 she adopted Donny and Matthew, receiving them to her small but powerful family. In 2015, she married the love of her life, Terry Hoskins. Together, they enjoyed trips to the Smoky Mountains, a cruise to the Caribbean, camping trips in their RV, and fishing in their boat. There were so many more adventures they had planned that remained unfulfilled due to her illness.
Sharan always loved nature and children. She taught cradle roll at Cleburne First Seventh-day Adventist Church for twenty-five years and youth ministries for five years. Sharan also shared her love of music, both singing and performing solo as part of the North Star Quartet. She especially enjoyed performing the National Anthem at the Cleburne Railroaders.
Sharan is preceded in death by her mother and father, Bobbie and Dick Northrop, her brother Lloyd, and is survived by her loving husband, Terry, three sons, Zak, Donny, and Matthew, and grandson Tucker, her brothers Nelson, “Eddie,” and Doyle and his wife Debbie stepsons, Jason and Jimmy, five step-grandchildren and one step-great grandchild, two nieces and a nephew, and two great-nieces. She leaves behind a community that will miss her deeply.
Visitation for family and friends will be held from 6 – 8 p.m. Friday, January 5, 2024 at Rosser Funeral Home in Cleburne.
