Shirley Hutchens

Shirley Erene Hutchens, 88, passed away peacefully, December 6, 2023, at her daughter Bridget's home in Rio Vista, Texas. Shirley was born November 24, 1935, in Florence, Oregon to Octave and Betty Erene (Bonner) Precourt. She graduated from Pendleton High School in 1953. She was a stewardess for several years and a dental hygienist and then married Joeseph Patrick Brennan. They had five children. She married Aaron Crawford Hutchens, and they had one child. Shirley spent over 40 years in the restaurant business, eventually retiring from the bookkeeping department of Stuart Andersons Cattle Company. She then worked for Standard Insurance in Portland and retired from there in the early 2000's. She lived out her retirement in her home in Cleburne, Texas.

Shirley lived a long and full life. She loved her family more than anything and always made sure that she knew what was going on in their lives through the many phone calls and visits she had with each of them. If she hadn't heard from any of them for a week or two, which was rare, she would be sure to call and touch base. She would always rejoice when her children and their families were doing well and would share the burden of their pain when they struggled. Shirley was the oldest of a large family of twelve and it was always fun and interesting to hear stories of her childhood. She paid close attention to politics and was never shy about giving her opinions as to where she stood. She was faithful to her Lord and since she didn't leave her home often, she would always watch Sunday services on her television or computer. She had several dogs in her later years, they were her faithful companions, she leaves behind her beloved "Tink". Two of her children passed away before her, Michael and Patrick, she is now reunited with them and no doubt celebrating. She raised six children on her own and had an impeccable work ethic. Shirley will be remembered for the love she gave her children and their families.

She is survived by her children Bridget Brennan (Daniel) Rio Vista, Tx, Richard Brennan (Teri) Richmond, Tx, John Brennan (Amy) Hutchinson, Kansas and Jim Hutchens (Christie) Rio Vista, Tx. Widowed daughter in law Deborah Lauer Brennan. Brother Dean Precourt. Sisters Thelma Lozier, Jan (Ron) Coons, Jean Raph, Luellla (Lawrence) Baily, Leona Bray, Kathy (Henry) Baker, Carol (Jeffrey) Greene, Vickie (Pete) Veliz.
