Betty Lou Smith
Graveside services for Betty Lou Smith, 80, of Cleburne, Texas will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 20, 2016 at Rosehill Cemetery with the Rev. John Glover officiating.
There is no visitation scheduled.
Betty Lou passed away Saturday, Jan. 16, 2016 in Cleburne. She was born November 19, 1935, in Blum, Texas, the middle daughter of Clifford and Tressie Pearl (Fergason) Thompson.
After five years of saying “No”, she finally said “Yes” and on Friday the 13th, May 1960, she married Edgar Lewis “Smitty” Smith in Marietta, Okla.
During her senior year of high school, she worked at the Retail Merchants Credit Bureau, where she continued after graduation.
After 13 years of “knowing everyone’s business”, she left the Credit Bureau and started her own business. She opened “Betty’s Fish Aquarium and Pet Shop, where she went fishing everyday for 18 years.
She left the work force when Ed became disabled in July of 1987.
After that, they were together every day until Ed passed away Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 24, 2005.
Betty Lou is preceded in death by her parents; husbands; older sister, Priscilla Ann and younger sister, Marchita.
She is survived by Evan and Mariah, children of Sorina DelaGarza and Brandon, son of Amy DelaGarza; several cousins; Smitty’s nieces and nephews; and other dear friends.
