Funeral services for Dolores Estelle Smyth, 91, of Cleburne, Texas will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, July 5, 2012 in the Rosser Funeral Home Chapel followed by a private family burial.
There will not be a scheduled visitation.
Mrs. Smyth died peacefully in her sleep on Sunday, July 1, 2012 in Cleburne. She was born at the Cleburne Sanitarium on Sept. 14, 1920. She was the adored only child of Nannie Mae and Joe Edgar Windham.
After graduating from CHS, she attended North Texas State Teachers College for two years. She married Jack Smyth in Galveston, Texas on July 25, 1942 and remained his beloved wife until his death in 2003.
Estelle was an active member of Central Church of Christ and later of Westhill Church of Christ.
While enduring Alzheimer’s disease, she carried on her life bravely and with dignity amidst the devastating loss of her husband and untimely death of her son.
Estelle was loved by many and the family is grateful to all the special friends who thought of her, even in sickness, knowing the card or visit might not be remembered.
Thanks and appreciation is extended to all of her wonderful caregivers, with humble gratitude especially to Bonnie Wasson who was her faithful caregiver and true friend for the last five years of her life.
Mrs. Smyth was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Dr. O.T. “Jack” Smyth; and son, Paul Smyth.
She is survived by her daughter, Patti Rogers and daughter-in-law, Judy Smyth, both of Cleburne; four grandchildren, Collin Rogers of Atlanta, Georgia, Ellen Ritchey and husband, Tim, of Richardson, Texas, Christopher Smyth and wife, Stephanie, of Allen, Texas and Anna Smyth of Dallas, Texas; great-grandchildren, Lucas and Lily Smyth of Allen and Margaret Ritchey of Richardson.
Mrs. Smyth is also survived by her loyal sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Mary Gean and Dr. Bill Smyth of Tyler, Texas and cousin, Betty Fraser Rhudy of Fort Worth, Texas.
