Sonya Etchison

Sonya Gilliland Etchison,64, of Cleburne, Texas passed away Friday, March 1, 2024. There are no services at this time.

Sonya was born in Birmingham, Alabama on May 13, 1959, the daughter of Dorothy Raye (Dykes) and James Owen Ballard. She married Burlin Wayne Etchison on September 26, 2011. Sonya was a barber and was of the Baptist faith.

She is preceded in death by her mother; late husband and father of her children, Dan Purnell; and brothers, Roger Dale Ballard and James Garry Ballard.

Sonya is survived by her husband, Burlin Wayne Etchison of Cleburne, Texas; father, James Owen Ballard; son, Michael Lance Benner ("Mama said there's no such thing as 'step'") of Joshua, Texas; daughters, Kris Clark and husband, Steven, of Rio Vista, Texas and Tosha Cortez and husband, Michael, of Wills Point, Texas; brother, Don Ballard and wife, Lori, of Midlothian, Texas; sister, Karinda Daugherty and husband, Jack, of Waxahachie, Texas; nieces and nephews, Jamie, Tori, Roni, Keesha, Kelly, Steeven, Kaitlyn, Erin, and Dylan; 13 grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.
