Funeral services for Steven Michael Steele, 64, of Cleburne, TX will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, October 24, 2019 at Cleburne Bible Church, 930 N. Nolan River Rd. in Cleburne, TX. Dr. David denHartog will officiate with Dr. David Hampton assisting. Burial will follow in Hopewell Cemetery in Joshua, TX. Pallbearers will be Dan Kaase, Marty Roy, Kelton Thornton, Billy Magalassi, Bob White and Blake Boteler. Honorary Pallbearers will be Bob Alford, Mike Duncan, David Opperman, Sharon Whitaker, John Slover, and Jeff Boschek.
A visitation for family and friends will be held from 6-8:00 p.m., Tuesday, October 22, 2019 at Cleburne Bible Church.
A Retired Senior Special Agent with the Federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms & Explosives (ATF) Dallas Field Division, Steven M. Steele passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 19, 2019 after a lengthy, hard-fought battle with cancer. He was born December 3, 1954 in Fort Worth to Mary Lois (Stanley) and Donald Francis Steele. He married Renay Robinson Byrd on July 13, 1996 in Joshua.
Steve began his career in Law Enforcement with the Arlington Police Department (APD) in 1975 and served as a patrol officer and undercover Detective. After several years with APD, Steve joined ATF in October 1987. As an ATF Senior Special Agent, Steve was also a Certified Fire Investigator, National Response Team and Special Response Team (SWAT) member. He retired in Dallas on December 31, 2011. After retirement from Federal law enforcement, Steve joined Texas Farm Bureau Insurance Company as a Fire/Fraud investigator. Steve had a big heart with a bold personality and was passionate about protecting and serving others. Steve loved hunting, fishing and spending time with his family and friends. He fearlessly loved the Lord and was committed to the church body. Together he and Renay were most recently involved as leaders in Re/Engage Marriage Ministry. He also served for many years as a National Alumni Officer of Kappa Alpha Order, a college social fraternity. Steve graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Texas at Arlington. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Shea; granddaughter, Ashton; and sister, Lisa.
Survivors include his beloved wife of 23 years, Renay Steele; daughters, Sandy Steele and husband Dustin Aldridge and Sommer Steele; sons, Huntter Byrd and wife Tanya and Hoyt Byrd; grandchildren, Ballard, Jordan, Madison, Madeleine, Peyton, Dalton, Cooper, James, Olivia-Shea, Ashton, Tatum, T. Boone; great-grandchildren, Liam and Keller Dean; best friend, Mike Duncan and wife Donna and their family; brother, Donald Steele; father-in-law, Roy L. Robinson and wife Johnnie; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Ken and Jaye Robinson; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Rhonda and Kenny Adcock; numerous nieces and nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends who will miss him greatly.
