Susan Talley, a woman of unwavering faith, boundless generosity, and a legendary stare that could freeze her children in their tracks, passed away peacefully on March 16, 2025, in Grandview, Texas, after a courageous battle with ALS. She was 76 years old.
Born on February 10, 1949, in Fort Worth, Texas, Susan was the youngest of three sisters, a role she took very seriously-much to the exasperation of her older siblings. She insisted on tagging along wherever they went, determined to be part of every adventure. But through the challenges of their early years, the sisters formed an unbreakable bond that would last the rest of their lives.
A devoted member of the Burleson Seventh-Day Adventist Church, Susan's faith in God was unshakable. Even in the face of ALS, she remained steadfast, reassuring her family, "It's going to be okay, there is nothing to be scared of. God is just calling me home. I'm rejoicing."
Her generosity was unmatched. If she had $10 and you needed $10, she'd find a way to give you $15. She never thought of herself first-her focus was always on making others feel loved, cared for, and supported. Whether through acts of kindness, an encouraging word, or simply showing up when it mattered most, Susan lived a life of selflessness and grace.
Her children, Kim and Richard, knew they were in trouble with just a glance. And even in her final days, they weren't quite convinced they were off the hook. But above all, she loved them fiercely, just as she adored her grandchildren-Ashley, Haven, Lola, and Mazie-who were the absolute joy of her life. Distance was never an obstacle; she made routine trips across the country to ensure they knew and loved their "Nana," a title she wore with pride.
She shared a beautiful marriage with John Talley until his passing in 2019, and together they built a life full of love, laughter, and faith.
Susan is survived by her sister, Melinda Sneed; her children, Kim Clark and Richard Clark; her stepchildren, Hunter Talley and Lisa Talley; and her cherished grandchildren, Ashley Turner, Haven Clark, Lola Clark, and Mazie Clark. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, John Talley; her parents, Creede and Mattie Hays; and her sister, Mary Rhine.
A viewing will be held on Thursday, March 20th, at 6 PM at Rosser Funeral Home in Cleburne, Texas. A graveside service will follow on Friday March 21, at 2pm at Hopewell Cemetery in Johnson County.
Susan's absence leaves an unfillable space, but those who knew her will carry forward her legacy of love, faith, and generosity-knowing, as she always did, that everything is going to be okay.
