Obituary for
Arnold Carl Swanson
A memorial service for Arnold Carl Swanson, 81, of Keene, Texas will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, July 21, 2015 at the Crossroads Fellowship Seventh-day Adventist Cowboy Church in Joshua, Texas.
There is no visitation scheduled.
Mr. Swanson passed away July 13, 2015 at Town Hall Estates in Keene, Texas. He was born October 9, 1933 in Warren, Minnesota to Carl and Anna (Johnson) Swanson.
Arnie was a member of the Vega Immanuel Lutheran Church of Warren. After graduating from Warren High School in 1952, he attended Gustavus Adolphus College, St. Peter, Minnesota, graduating with a Bachelor’s degree in education.
Arnie attended Fremout Nebraska Theological Seminary for a short time before entering the US Army on June 26, 1958 and being honorably discharged on June 24, 1960.
After returning from the military, he taught in various elementary schools in Minnesota. While teaching in Fergus Falls, Arnie met co-teacher Aryla Kae Unruh. They were married in Dilworth, Minnesota on August 25, 1970. After leaving the teaching profession, they moved to Rochester, Minnesota to be administrator and Chaplain at Town Hall Estates.
In 2000, they retired and moved to Keene to be closer to Aryla Kae’s twin sister. Arnie loved music, singing, playing the piano and the organ. He also taught piano and voice to many students. His philosophy was to always do the best that you could. Arnie enjoyed meeting weekly with his friends at Sweet Peppa’s where many stories, happy memories and laughter were shared.
He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Evald; sister-in-law, Phyllis; nephew, Gerald; brother-in-law, Kenneth Bunnell; sister-in-law, Alberta Ann Bunnell; and niece, Stacey Wiggins.
Arnold is survived by his wife, Aryla Kae of Keene; brothers, Earl (Marlys) Swanson of Houston, TX, Elnar Swanson of Fargo, ND, and Marvin (Hansena) Swanson of Salinas, CA; sister-in-law, Patty Swanson of Tucson, AZ; and brother-in-law, Dennis (LaJune) Unruh of Fargo, ND.
He is also survived by several nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.
