Obituary for Carolyn Weaver Witten (Everett )

Carolyn E. Weaver Witten 88, of Colorado City, Texas died July 18, 2014 in Lubbock, Texas. Graveside rites will be conducted at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 22, 2014 at Rosehill Cemetery in Cleburne, Texas.
Visitation will be held from 6 – 8 p.m. Monday, July 21, 2014 at Rosser Funeral Home in Cleburne.
Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Seth Rosson, Joseph Weaver, Chris Loyd, Austin Greene, Sean Morgan, and Ben Witten.
Carolyn Everett was born to Alice and Dewey Everett November 9, 1925 in Cleburne, Texas. She graduated from Cleburne High School in 1943 and from Texas Christian University in 1947. She married Martin Weaver, also of Cleburne, in 1948 and they moved to Colorado City where Mr. Weaver was administrator of Root Valley Fair Lodge until his death in 1975.
In 1991 she married George Witten, a Colorado City businessman. Mr. Witten preceded her in death in 2006.
Mrs. Witten was an elementary school teacher for twenty five years, having taught third grade at both Kelly and Hutchinson schools in Colorado City, Texas.
She was an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Colorado City for many years. Mrs. Witten was also a member of the Agape Circle, Colorado City Garden Club, Retired Teachers Association, and Beta Epsilon Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma.
Mrs. Witten is survived by daughters, Melissa Rosson and husband, Jim, of Lubbock, Amanda Shurtleff and husband, Clay, of San Angelo, Texas and son, Scott Weaver and wife, Virginia, of Whittier, California. Also surviving are a sister, Susan Cathey of Llano, Texas; two step-children, Ron Witten and wife, Tish, Lynne Morgan and husband, Melvin, all of Dallas, Texas. Mrs. Witten was affectionately known as “Nonnie” to her grandchildren, Christa Rosson Greene, Seth Martin Rosson, Haley Catherine Shurtleff, Hillary Shurtleff Loyd, Melanie Anne Weaver and Joseph Scott Weaver. Other survivors include two great grandchildren, four nieces, three step- grandchildren and two step- great grandchildren.
